Fall means pumpkins and going out to the country to take pictures of other people taking pictures of their children sitting on pumpkins.
Yes, we went to Pumpkin Country. Along with 40,000 other DC people looking for the obligatory pumpkin photo ops/country jamborees for people who drive Priuses and Minivans and have fancy SLR cameras.
Yee-haw, Ma!
Boy, am I glad The Husband drove our stuffed van up to Pumpkin Country since it involved driving on those hated not-quite-big-enough-for-2-vehicles-country roads that always stress the bejesus out of me. Like that time I was driving us in some mountain around Napa Valley, complete with death-defying turns and general dis-ease, only to have some impatient Mountain Man behind me riding my tail. Back off and give me some space!
But, despite the massive suburban flooding of Pumpkin Country, we managed to have a fall-icious time (totally just coined that term right there. Go forth and repeat.)
For one, there were hayrides. ($3 per person hayrides, FYI)
And pumpkin-hauling
And staged photo-ops with mutant pumpkins.
And holes to stick heads in.
But, no one, I mean no one, can argue about the beauty of a caramel apple.
(That is, unless your face looks like that while eating it.)
Nevertheless, caramel apples are awesome.
And thsay geth stucths en yur teef
Mmmm...apple....
Wait! Is there an APPLE under there???
(Not pictured: hot apple cider, hot dogs, fresh vegetable soup, and about 1,000 yellow jackets)
Until next year, Pumpkin Country. We will miss you.

SUCH cute pictures.

Why does the boy look so unhappy in the first hayride picture? and your last picture of that apple really makes me LOL.

slouchy- I saved a good one: when Grandma put her cowboy hat (actually mine) on Boy during the hayride. That must make it into Version 22.0 XY.
anna- Boy has reservations about most new experiences. Sitting on hay (and later getting buried up to his chin in it) while on a strange rolling machine is new.

Damn she is deadly serious about that caramel apple! Can't wait to see the cowboy hat on the boy.

We have skipped the pumpkin patch thing so far because they are so expensive! But, I know our time will come... Looks like it was a good time though!
And narrow roads are okay - it is the winding narrow roads with drop offs on at least one side that FREAK me out!

Hey! I drive a minivan and have a fancy SLR! I'm heading to the pumpkin patch, too, next Friday with KayTar's class.
The photo of her attacking that apple is AWESOME!

That mutilated apple picture could definitely win some sort of photography contest.

Manic- don't stand between either of my children and dessert. The hat was only one for one millisecond before it got deflected but I got the photo!
aju5- Last year, they didn't charge for the hayride! It's getting way too commerical for my tastes. Oh - those roads with the drop off - I might as well be throwing my new ulcer a welcome party.
kyla- hope it's a blast. Girl means business - she's like an attack dog.
rima- Hmmm..maybe I should enter it. I find the pattern of his incisors quite beautiful. (he did, later, break into the apple. We all applauded.)
